Singapore Intend to Enlarge Electricity Retail Market

Energy Market Authority, EMA, announced that since July, 2015, in order to further save energy cost, small enterprises are allowed to choose power suppliers at their disposal, but the available quantity of electricity by this means is limited between 2000kWh and 4000kWh.

According to the statistics of EMA, about 10,000 Singapore small enterprises met the requirement of the policy, the majority of them are catering retailers and small-scale retailers. Their power cost is between SGD550 and SGD1,100. They may become contestable consumers of power retailors in future; in the past, they had to buy power from SP Services, a new energy service company in accordance with government’s regulation on power charge collection, but now, they can choose their power suppliers from fourteen power retailors.

EMA indicates that 84% power demand will be met from public market. Power retail market will be fully open in the near future.
